CNC Machining - Overview Of Water Jet Cutting - Water Jet Cutting Types

There are two main types of water jetting; Pure water flow and abrasive water flow.
Abrasive water jet includes a mixture of water and abrasive substances such as garnet and alumina
On the other hand, pure water jet flow only contains pure water
material
Water jet cutting can cut various materials, including hard materials such as aluminum, steel, copper, other metals, and stones. It can also cut relatively soft materials such as wood, rubber, plastic, and paper. For cutting hard materials, use abrasive water jet. Pure water is used for cutting soft materials. The maximum thickness that can be cut in this process depends on the material.
Benefits and limitations
Compared with plasma cutting and laser cutting, water jet cutting has some advantages. Firstly, it is the most accurate of the three, with a tolerance between 0.05 and 0.1 mm. In addition, water jet cutting does not involve any heat, so there is no heat affected zone generated in the workpiece. Due to this and the precision of water jet cutting, the parts produced by this process require almost no post-processing or finishing.
The other benefits of water jet cutting are its ability to cut complex and complex shapes, minimal material waste, and recyclability of the water used.
