The step of adding tolerance requirements to machined parts is called tolerance design. Here are some suggestions and tips we provide for tolerance design:
Tolerance is crucial for part design. However, not all parts or all features of parts require tolerance design. In order to save processing time and costs, it is only necessary to design tolerances for the key features of the parts, such as when there is a fit or interference between the parts and other parts or assembly parts.
Avoid overly strict tolerances. Strict tolerance requirements often mean more substandard parts, the need for additional measuring tools or fixtures, and longer delivery cycles - all of which require more processing costs to be invested.
When designing tolerances, do not forget to check the machining ability and tolerances of the CNC machine tool used to produce the parts.
