CNC milling is a material reduction manufacturing process in which computer-controlled cutting tools gradually remove material from the workpiece to create the desired shape or object. This process is achieved through the use of machines called CNC milling machines or CNC grinders. It is the most widely used machining process, while others are CNC turning and CNC drilling.
Parts of CNC milling machine
In order to better understand the process of CNC milling, it is necessary to understand the parts of CNC milling. The parts of different milling machines vary depending on the manufacturer, type, and capability. However, there are some parts that are the foundation of each CNC milling machine:
Spindle: The spindle holds the cutting tool in place
Control panel: The operator uses this component to control the machine. This is the location of the computer interface
Column: A column is the main frame and support of a machine. It fixes other components in place
Saddle shaped component: The saddle shaped component is fixed to the support column of the machine. It supports the workbench.
Workbench: The workbench is located at the top of the saddle part. This is the place where the operator places the workpiece and uses the workpiece holding device.
Foundation: The foundation is something that provides support for the entire machine on the ground.
